I ask great questions

I design programmes

I facilitate groups

I coach individuals

I support leaders at all levels to grow

I work with commonly occurring themes including self awareness, identity, values, vision and purpose, personality, beliefs, empathy and vulnerability. Every workplace and every leader is different, so I tailor content and approach to each engagement so that the fit is ‘just right’.

Leadership development

If you realise that, like most other organisations in Aotearoa, you have been promoting great doers of the work into people leadership, and expecting them to be great at that too, you probably know you need help.

That’s where I come in.

Together we work out what your people need in order to be great leaders in your context, and I design a programme that fits the bill.

We evaluate as we go along so we can tune the programme to deliver reliably.

My favourite programme elements include: -

-Build a cohort of 3-12 leaders who go through the experience together and who can support each other afterwards

-Meet monthly for a few hours to deliver content, discuss what is working and what needs more, and to leverage the power of the group

-Get outside. Breathe some fresh air. Use a game or an activity to bring a lesson alive. Make it kinesthetic so the learning suits more people and goes deeper

-Psychometric tools to rapidly boost self and other awareness

-Create high trust spaces where people can be real and vulnerable with each other, which leads to…

-Fun, laughter and joy, even when its difficult! Especially when it’s difficult

-Matching leadership theory to the need of the moment

-Getting away from the work environment. Deeper change often needs to start somewhere fresh and then be embedded back in the home / work context

-Going to the mountains, or the sea when the time allows and the situation demands

Coaching

It’s 1:1 or very small groups, and we can go anywhere you like. Well…almost. Coaching is not therapy and I’m not a therapist, so I’ll stop us going anywhere we won’t both be safe.

Coaching is a great way of bringing on a growth spurt, or working through a particular challenge.

We meet every 3 to 4 weeks, face to face or online, and work on your questions.

We can use powerful tools like The Leadership Circle which is a 360 feedback based leadership assessment. This lays out a clear picture of how you are showing up as a leader and gives clear directions for where you should focus, both turning up the volume on what’s great, and turning it down where you’re getting in your own way.

A ‘burst’ of 4-6 months of coaching works well for most people. You get support and accountability for a period of time, then you fly solo again.

Reasons to get coaching: -

-Promotion or change of role leaves you feeling ‘under the pump’

-You know there is something to learn…but you can’t slow down long enough to do the reflection by yourself

-Had some rough feedback and need help working through it

-Looking at a new job / opportunity and need help getting ‘ready for lift off’ -Having a ‘what the fuck am I doing with my life?’ moment

-Can’t find any CPD that rings your bell. Want something open ended that is tailored to your specific needs

All coaching packages include: -

-Tailored reflective questions before every session

-Notes from each session including agreed actions

-On call availability between scheduled sessions

It’s leadership development, but now with climate!

Leaders in organisations know that climate change is a big deal, but many don’t know how to make climate responsiveness a part of their leadership.

Using the tried and tested tools of leadership development and coaching, underpinned by my ongoing Doctorate in Climate Leadership research, I am putting more focus on this part of the business as the urgency of the situation, and readiness to engage increase.

Climate leadership is distributed across all levels of the organisation from the chair of the board / owner, to the kaimahi on the ground who know “how to get things done around here”. So we often do this work with multi level teams. These are the people who are the leaders for climate change in the business.

Hot topics include: -

-Vision and values work

-Organisational purpose

-Risk and opportunities

-Essential climate science for business

-Incremental vs transformational change

-Navigating status quo, innovation and vision

-Climate leadership as change leadership

-Cultural perspectives on climate

-Nature connection as fundamental driver of ‘giving a damn’

All programmes are bespoke as the field is very new.
